  • The event at Amenia Town Hall will feature presentations on ecology and technology, as well as food, music and art.

The towns of Amenia and Millerton have joined forces to present a fun and informative community event to celebrate Earth Day. On Saturday, April 20 from noon-4 PM, over 20 organizations will come together in the Amenia Town Hall gym, offering the public the opportunity to learn about electric vehicles, native vs. invasive plants, the latest home efficiency innovations, environmental conservation and more. The effort is being hosted jointly by volunteers from Millerton’s Climate Smart Community Task Force and Amenia’s Climate Smart Task Force/CAC.

Northeast Ford, Bash Bish Bicycles and Covered Bridge Electric Bicycles will have the newest high efficiency vehicles on view. Empire Solar will demonstrate their home solar panels and provide information about the savings that can be gained by going solar, and RYCOR will be on site with information about energy efficient heat pumps. NYSERDA will also be represented to share info about state incentives to help residents decrease their carbon footprints. McEnroe Farms will have info about composting, and the Amenia CAC will have a raffle for a free home composter donated by HG Page.

Amenia Garden Club, Homegrown National Park and NoMoreInvaisivePlants will share information about invasive species eradication and the benefits of growing native plants at home–with seed giveaways! Amenia Library will be onsite and will also host a seed swap at the library. The Garden Club will host a talk with Wethersfield in the auditorium at 2 PM.

Trout Unlimited will demonstrate the importance of caring for our waterways, Dutchess Land Conservancy will share information about their work protecting the environment, and the Housatonic Valley Association will share knowledge about forest ecology in the watershed. The Cary Institute, Duchess Land Conservancy, American Farmland Trust, and Cornell Cooperative Extension will also be represented.

This family-friendly event will feature fun games and art displays by Webutuck students, as well as a Creation Station with arts and crafts presented by the Webutuck Student Council and zine making with Millerton artist Deborah Maier. There will be live music on site, and food will be available from Four Brothers Pizza and Blackbird Cafe.

The Earth Day event is just the start! Millerton and Amenia are also hosting a mostly-Saturday series of town events, including town clean-ups, a free film screening, artmaking and a Repair Café.
